The Ark Addendum - Super Ginrai's Transform

Welcome back to the latest edition of The Ark Addendum.  This week, we head back to Japan to get some nice Masterforce transformations.  This is the transformation sequence for Super Ginrai.  I've already posted the transform for vanilla-Ginrai some time ago - over two years ago, my how time flies.  I think I've got one more Transform for him somewhere.  I'm sure I'll get to it before too long.

I like how toy accurate this one is.  There's very little cheating going on.  That might have been a bit of a weakness on regular-Ginrai (the fake chest thing is a bit weird) but here it works out just dandy. 

Ark Addendum - Ginrai's Interior

Things have been hectic around here, what with my wedding last Saturday and all. Pictures from the wedding will be up as soon as I get some from the photographer.

Still, I wanted to keep up with The Ark Addendum, so this week another A-lister. I bring you ... Ginrai's interior! Truck Ginrai's interior, anyway. The interior of the human Ginrai would only be of interest to someone like my bride (a surgeon.)

Actually, a small version of the interior angle in the upper right DOES show up in both The Ark II and The Complete Ark. I think it's neat that you can read all the dials though. Since Ginrai is a trucker in the United States, the instruments are in English, and the driver's side is on the left. There is also detailing for the sleeper compartment.

This piece, along with the Unicron heads, I would have dearly loved to include in The Complete Ark, but I just ran out of pages. I also have some expanded pages for the Cybertron and Destron bases from Masterforce that I'd have loved to include. Ah, well, more blog-fodder I suppose.

Ark Addendum - Ginrai's Transformation

It's that time again, another installment of The Ark Addendum. This week, I was feeling Masterforcy! And so I bring you Ginrai's Transformation sequence.

I remain perpetually impressed with how cool most of these sequences are. Even just the establishing shot of him in truck mode, barreling along, is full of action and life. And the triangular panels, though no doubt in place because there are more than 8 steps, help break up the monotony of the normal grid pattern.

That said, I've always found it odd how faithful to the toy Ginrai's model is. Even as a kid, I always just assumed that the whole false front thing to the Powermaster Prime toy was to make Prime look more like his character model, not to indicate that he actually had a false torso in his chest somewhere. I'm reminded of the Gobots cartoon, where the cars would roll over a ditch where someone was hiding and they'd look up and see a gobot face in the undercarriage. Taking liberties with the toys isn't always a bad thing.
