Armies: Ravage Clones

In honor of Zobovor's most excellent review of Universe Hound & Ravage, I thought I'd post another of my armies. This time, it's clones of the nefarious Ravage!

I've been itching for an army of Ravage clones ever since I read Devil's Due's second G.I. Joe vs Transformers crossover. Members of the Joe & Cobra teams are scattered throughout time, tasked with tracking down lost Transformers. One team winds up in a dystopian future ruled by Decepticons. There are hordes of Sweeps, Insecticons (ho-hum) and . . . Ravage clones? AWESOME! Now I have an excuse to army-build on this guy.

I've been holding of on pulling the trigger on my Ravage collection, though. The original Ravage figure is nice, but it's a bit . . . flat. It'd be hard to pose a group of him and make them all look different. This new Ravage figure, with its excellent range of motion and its three dimensional feel, fit the bill perfectly.

I toyed with the idea of painting one of these things into Howlback colors, so I'd have a general, but there's really nothing in the story to support that. I think perhaps a better leader designation would be to plop the original Ravage's weapons on one of the toys.

I hope you enjoy my Ravage clone army. Which brings me to my next point . . . anyone want to buy a Hound (or three?).

Army Building - Planet X Bird Drones

Unsurprisingly, I am an avid collector of Transformers toys. Where my taste varies from others is that perhaps my favorite kind of collecting is army building. There's nothing quite as satisfying to me as getting 2 or 5 or 10 of the same toy, maybe with a general to lead them. The trouble is, I can't bring myself to army build just anyone. No, there has to be an in-continuity reason to get multiples. Fortunately, there are no shortage of toys to choose from.

This week, Transformers: Cybertron's Planet X bird-drones. Packaged as Lazerbeak and sold with Soundwave, they were a bit pricey to collect given their size. Nevertheless, I'm quite fond of my Planet X bird drones.

For my general bird, I choose Soundblaster's Hell Buzzsaw. There's no really good in-continuity reason for this, but Hell Buzzsaw is a denizen of Planet X and we have no indication that there are multiples of him, so to my mind it more or less works. Note the Blockrocks and the various hexagonal weapons stacked up in the background.

A good episode to check out for bird-drone swarms is the episode Guardian, wherein they swarm out of a space bridge and prevent the Autobots from using it.
