As ...My favourite single issues are #50 and #75 :)

As for the artists... I seem to remember (this takes Dutch letters into account as well as my general memories from the letter's pages in the US comic) that Wildman was extremely popular at the time. Todd MacFarlane was doing Spider-Man, and highly detailed, somewhat cartoony art was highly popular at the time. A lot of people were happy that Transformers got that artstyle as well I think (in any case, Stephen Baskerville was as much responisble for all that detail as Wildman was).

I think Delbo was popular because he had a very classic artstyle, little risk in it maybe, but everything always looked tip-top.

Senior... I believe people either loved his artstyle or hated it. When I saw it at first, I hated it. By the time issue #75 came around, I was okay with it. I LOVED what he did in the final issues of Generation 2 :)Hanshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03442388706616569265noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9163141447241149534.post-63060966478734067252011-01-29T15:00:54.746-08:002011-01-29T15:00:54.746-08:00Which is your favourite issues in the MArvel run?
...Which is your favourite issues in the MArvel run?

My favourites are:
6-8, 17-20, 23,31,and 78. Yes, #31 (Car Wash of Doom) is one of my favourite issues because the plot makes sense. Someone like Ratbat is looking for ways to gain fuel for the least expenditure. What better way to accomplish that than to get the humans to give fuel to the Decepticons?)

In the Marvel UK run, I liked Target 2006, and any story with Death's Head in it. I also liked the Ultra Magnus/Galvatron matchups.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9163141447241149534.post-17895580966667129212011-01-27T23:43:03.009-08:002011-01-27T23:43:03.009-08:00I loved the Furman/Wildman team so much, I wish we...I loved the Furman/Wildman team so much, I wish we'd gotten more of it (War Within aside). I was so disappointed that Wildman wasn't really on for G2, and have always wondered why.LBD 'Nytetrayn'https://www.blogger.com/profile/03558404841371560435noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9163141447241149534.post-75666693561297118832011-01-27T13:30:38.167-08:002011-01-27T13:30:38.167-08:00While we're talking about the comparative meri...While we're talking about the comparative merits of artists, it's worth noting that a lot of fans (I'm not one of them) really hate Wildman's work, which is admittedly a very "organic" style that may not "accurately" reflect what robotic beings should look like (tounges, teeth, etc), but captures emotion so dynamically that I seldom cared about such niggling details.

(Getting a bit ahead of ourselves, I'll express my disappointment that the one time Wildman came back in G2, he was relegated almost exclusively to GI Joe pages, and didn't really get to work on the TFs themselves. For shame!)Mark Baker-Wrighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14593390925694976101noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9163141447241149534.post-37729337578657026602011-01-27T11:07:53.236-08:002011-01-27T11:07:53.236-08:00D.M. At the time, I didn't care for it at all.

Hans - Yeah, ok, G.I.*Joe Starring Snake-Eyes and Ninja Force, if you want to get technical. When I give the Marvel Comic series to people to read, I usually have them do 1-13, 17-18, The Headmasters and 35-36, 47-51, and 56 - 80. It gives you most of the important plot bits and a couple of good stand-alones as well. (Getaway is fixed - I knew that, don't know why my damn fingers typed Joyride.)Jimtronhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18138709079942253485noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9163141447241149534.post-18470652056981907762011-01-27T10:59:59.727-08:002011-01-27T10:59:59.727-08:00Heh, G.I. Wasn't the title called Snake Eyes at that time....? ;)

I completely agree that the Marvel Transformers title is worth checking out, although if someone would ask me where to start, I'd probably point them to the Underbase saga, and continue from there, as that's shortly before Simon takes over.

But all in all, these final issues (the "Unicron saga") were absolutely fantastic, and although they are now 20 years old, they completely dwarf the direction that IDW is taking with Transformers today. Sad but true. And yes, I'm bringing this as fact, not just my opinion :)

Btw, Jim, it's Getaway on the splashpage (he's been "got", if I remember the joke correctly).

Can't wait to get to Generation 2! The comic certainly didn't stop being great here, I'd say :)Hanshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03442388706616569265noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9163141447241149534.post-75978506579436333732011-01-27T10:44:15.799-08:002011-01-27T10:44:15.799-08:00Reading the letters page... odd that Delbo was sup...Reading the letters page... odd that Delbo was supposedly praised by the majority of fans while Geoff received criticism.
